Playstation 3 outsells Xbox 360 by 28%

Xbox 360 vs Sony PS3Microsoft and Sony have been battling it out for years in the ‘console war’, and the winner this year was Sony. For the financial year ending on June 30 2010, the Sony PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 by 28%. Figures show the Xbox 360 only sold 10.3 million consoles compared to the 14.3 million consoles sold by Sony.

This is a big change from last year when the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3. The release of the PS3 Slim and the reduction in price of the original PS3 seem to be the reason for the reversal in sales.

Despite this change in sales Microsoft are still 3.6 million sales ahead of Sony overall. They have also just released the new Xbox 360 Slim recently which is sure to give their sales a boost.

Later this year the heated battle will continue when the Playstation Move and Micrsoft Kinect are released. Microsoft may be wearing the gaming crown for now but will they still be this time next year? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

I believe that this is rooted in the idea that Xbox 360 is much more “American” than Play Station is. I know 1 person with a PS3 in the US but all of my family abroad has PS3s up the wazoo.
