First hard drive with Thunderbolt Technology revealed

LaCie have revealed the first ever hard drive with the new Thunderbolt Technology.

A few days ago Apple announced their new range of MacBook Pro laptops which are the first and only to feature the new Thunderbolt Technology.

Lacie Little Big Disk with Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is peripheral I/O technology standard which possesses a 10Gbps speed and can support high-resolution displays. To give you an idea of just how fast that is, it’s more than 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0.

The new hard drive known as the Little Big Disk runs on PCI Express and DisplayPort protocols. Below the sturdy aluminum case are two 250GB Intel 510 series solid state drives.

Philippe Spruch, the Chairman and General Manager of LaCie had this to say: “Thunderbolt technology is a breakthrough in I/O technology and represents the future of mobile computing. Soon you will be able to carry workstation-class power and functionality in compact devices.”

It is scheduled for summer 2011 release, price is still unknown.
