We’ve heard about using a controller with your phone to play mobile games, but actually turning your phone into a gamepad to play games on your computer is something that we rarely see. A startup called WanderPlayer is doing just that.
They have a developed a way to turn your iPhone into a controller for playing online computer games. All that the user has to do is download the phone app and the desktop app. Then, from your phone, pick an online game to play (so far, there are over 150 to choose from). Once you select a game, it will automatically open it on your computer. However, you have to make sure both your phone and computer are on the same network, as the two devices communicate over WiFi.
According to co-founder Ayo Omojola, the project isn’t easy and says that all of the factors that go into making such a product are “really difficult and take a while to get right.” From where the project stands right now, it seems like there definitely on the right path to getting it right.
WanderPlayer expects to add multiplayer functionality where two or more players can battle it out on the same computer screen without any additional equipment. They also want to turn WanderPlayer into a platform where game developers can sell optimized versions of their games with virtual controllers that they build themselves.
The company also plans on adding support for Android devices. No other mobile platforms were mentioned, though.
