Intel’s Thunderbolt I/O port first appeared on Apple’s new range of MacBook Pro’s earlier this year boasting data transfer speeds 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0. The new technology is set to replace the ever popular USB technology over the coming years; it will connect the next generation of high-performance peripherals to the next generation of computers.
Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of Intel on stage a few days ago at IDF 2011 announced that their Thunderbolt technology would be making its way to non-Mac machines. He was on stage to showcase six Ultrabook designs when he made the annoucement however did not reveal when the Thunderbolt I/O would be hit the market on a Windows PC.
Today we get a first look at the Thunderbolt technology running on a Windows PC. Backstage at IDF the guys at Engadget managed to get some hands on time with a machine running the Thunderbolt technology; including pictures and video.
The video demonstrates the Thunderbolt technology eat up 700MB of throughput from four 1080p streams, off a PCIe attached SSD.
