On the same day Apple announces its iPhone 4S, Samsung released this teaser video on YouTube hyping up a mystery device that they are expected to unveil at next week’s Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in San Diego, on October 11.
The rumor making the rounds at the moment is that the mystery device in the video is the highly anticipated Nexus Prime, which is expected to be the first device that will run Google’s Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
Ice Cream Sandwich is set to be the first Android OS that is the same software for tablets and smartphones, it has brought together aspects from Androind Gingerbread and Honeycomb into one OS that can be used on both platforms. It is widely expected at the event next week called which Samsung have called the “Google Episode”, we will get a first look at the final Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
Though if we look closer at the video it is clear that there is another device behind what we think is the Nexus Prime. Our friend filmmaker Joe Lancaster took the clearest moment in the video and added a few indicators to suggest that behind the obvious smartphone there is a tablet in the background as well.
The theory seems to make complete sense and is backed up by a couple of things. Firstly in the video Samsung refer to the mystery device(s) in the video as “Another perfect combination”. Secondly Ice Cream Sandwich is the first Android OS that will work on both smartphone and tablet, so it would make sense for them to unveil it working on both plaforms.
The Samsung Mobile Unpacked event takes place next week on October 11, so it won’t be too long now before we find out what Samsung and Google have in store for us.
