Sony have confirmed that its upcoming PS Vita portable gaming console will have 3G download limits and that its memory cards will be system-specific. The news comes from a recent interview Sony Computer Entertainment done with Japanese publication ASCII.
The news wasn’t unexpected as it’s typical of Sony to do such a thing, however it is surprising that the PS Vita will now require a completely new memory card format that will not be compatible with any of Sony’s other products.
When downloading over the 3G network on users will be limited to downloading files 20MB or smaller. For downloading larger files you will have to use WiFi. The memory cards for the PS Vita are specific to the device, so they will not be compatible with any other Sony products or future products.
The device will launch with 26 games in Japan on December 17, followed by a worldwide release on December 31. In terms of pricing you can pre-order one now with the WiFi-only version costing $249.99 and the WiFi+3G version $299.99.
