According to data released by a digital marketing firm eDataSource, Amazon have taken just under 100,000 pre-orders for the Amazon Kindle Fire on the first day of sales.
Reports from the digital marketing firm say they have taken pre-orders for 95,000 tablets, which is just under a third of first generation iPads sold in 24 hours but still an impressive figure considering Amazon won’t be shipping the Kindle Fire until November 15.
Amazon also started launched the original Kindle which will sell for $70 and the Kindle Touch which will sell for $99, they have reached roughly $25,000 units in pre-order sales. Digital marketing firm eDataSource estimated the figures by tracking email purchase receipts in 800,000 inboxes.
The Kindle Fire will be running a heavily modified version of Android. It has a 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor and the 7-inch display which is covered in toughened Gorilla Glass runs at 1024 x 600 resolution. It has 8GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM and weighs in at only 14.6 ounces. The battery life is around 7 hours of WiFi use after a full charge.
You can pre-order one now from Amazon or from retail partners such as Best Buy. There is still no word on whether or not the Kindle Fire will be available outside the US, though we don’t see why not and we’re hoping Amazon will release it worldwide sooner rather than later.
