Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt during a Dreamforce conference in San Francisco announced that the latest version of Google’s Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich, will be released in October/November.
We’ve known for a while that the upcoming Android dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich would be released before the end of the year but in an interview with Salesforce CEO Mike Benioff, Eric Schmidt was more specific, “We have a new operating system, internally known as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason, which is being released in October/November, which everyone’s really excited about.”
Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to combine elements from the Gingerbread smartphone OS and the Honeycomb tablet software into one Android OS. A major update to the Android OS was announced earlier in the year for a Q4 release but since then there has been no official statement until now. You can watch the full keynote below:
