HTC today announced a brand new Android smartphone, the HTC Explorer and it’s the company’s most affordable handset to date. It’s the perfect device for new smartphone adapters not wishing to spend much but access basic Android features.
Although the new handset is the companies most affordable handset it’s also had to strip away all the luxury features you’d associate with the latest Android phones. There is no dual-core processor, no HD display and no fancy camera.
It has a 600MHz processor, is sporting a 3.2-inch HVGA 480 x 320 touch display and has a 3-megapixel camera. It is running Android 2.3.5 OS alongside HTC Sense 3.5 UI. However the Sense UI is a stripped down version, you don’t get the usual side scrolling effect but instead just the single home screen.
The specs and features are very modest but that doesn’t mean this isn’t a great phone, it looks great and is very compact. It will also come in a range of colors; two shades of black, metallic orange, metallic white, and metallic purple.
There is still no word on pricing though we expect it will be available on pretty much all contracts. It will be available in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia later this year.
