We reported the other day that Samsung had removed their Galaxy Tab 7.7 from their booth at IFA but it was unclear why exactly the Tab had been removed.
We can now confirm the German court in Dusseldorf has banned the sale, promotion and marketing of the Galaxy Tab 7.7; the same court that banned sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 in late August.
The South Korean company revealed the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 only a few days ago at the annual IFA technology show in Berlin but the Galaxy Tab 7.7 was only on display at their booth for a short time before the court order forced them to remove it.
“Samsung respects the court’s decision made on September 2 and therefore decided not to display the Galaxy Tab 7.7 anymore in IFA,” said a spokesperson for Samsung. They also added: “We believe it severely limits consumer choice in Germany.”
Samsung and Apple have been locked in a bitter patent battle for many months now with Apple claiming Samsung have infringed on its patents. There are ongoing legal battles in the US, Europe, South Korea and Australia. As well as the successful injunctions against them in Germany, Samsung have also been forced to delay its tablet sales in Australia twice.
“Samsung will pursue all available measures, including legal options, to defend its intellectual property rights and ensure its innovative products remain available to German consumers,” the company spokesperson said.
