As of today the Motorola Droid Bionic is now on sale and judging by the reviews that have already started to roll in Motorola could be onto a winner. The a 4G LTE smartphone will set you back $299 with a two year contract and it will will be sold exclusively on the Verizon network.
A lot of people have been waiting a long time to get their hands on this powerhouse of a phone from Motorola ever since it was introduced back in January at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show. It was originally scheduled for release in Q2 2011 but it got delayed and is only now being released.
The smartphone features includes a 1GHz OMAP dual core processor, 4.3 inch qHD (540 x 960) display, HDMI output, 3G/4G wireless hotspot capability, 8 MP low-light–capable camera with 1080p HD video capture and a front-facing camera capable of Video Chat.
It also includes standard features such as Wi-Fi, Micro SD slot which supports sizes up to 32Gb, Bluetooth and microUSB.
It will be running Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. The big selling point for this phone of course is the fact it’s the first dual-core Android phone with 4G LTE.
The biggest question being asked at the moment however is can it take on the iPhone 4? Well according to reviews so far it seems like it can. Engadget’s editor-in-chief Tim Stevens said, “Performance on the phone seems exceptional so far, but we’ll withhold full judgment until we’ve run our suite of tests.”
“Compared with many of the devices on the market, the Bionic stands out in both look and feel, as well as solidness of construction. It just comes off as a nice, expensive phone – even comparing favorably when matched up with the iPhone 4,” said blogger Joshua Topolsky.
So the initial signs are good for the Motorola Droid Bionic. If you want to get your hands on one it’s now available at Verizon Wireless retail stores or online. However according to PC Magazine, “if you’re willing to wait until September 13, Coscto is offering the device for $279.99 with hundreds of dollars worth of free accessories thrown in.”
