Vodafone announced earlier today that they have started to sell their Vodafone 555 smartphone.
The mobile phone giants revealed the phone back in July, as the first prepay handset with a dedicated Facebook button. However since then HTC have already released the very similar HTC ChaCha which also has a Facebook button; the form factor and color are also similar but that’s pretty much all the smartphones have in common.
The Vodafone 555 Blue is very much a budget phone aimed at the lower end of the market. It is built by Alcatel, has a 2.4-inch QVGA display (non-touchscreen), full QWERTY keyboard and 2 megapixel camera. With 2G built-in the best you can expect is to browse the web using EDGE. It runs on a proprietary OS and uses Opera Mini as an internet browser.
The phone will go on sale for £70, that price includes a £15 top up which provides the customer with 200 minutes, 600 texts and 100MB web access on top of the regular top up amount. It can also be purchased without a SIM for £62.50 locked to Vodafone.
