The “Ultrabook” is one of the hottest things going on the PC market these days. Asus, encouraged by the fact is set to release about seven new models of the slim and powerful PC in the next year. Are they being over ambitious?
The models are expected to be priced between $800 to $2000 and they all are fundamentally set to replicate the Core i7 packing of the Asus Ultrabook. The UX21 that has been seen a few times will be on the high end of that range for sure.
Intel have stated that they hope to grab 40% of the notebook market with Ultrabooks, however Asus’ CEO Jerry Shen isn’t convinced. Shen says that next year only about 20% of the notebook that Asus ships are expected to be of the ultrabook variety. Shen believes that 2013 is a more realistic time frame for capturing the 40% that Intel wants; due to concerns over heat issues and the price of the Ultrabooks.
Still, it makes you wonder whether a company does actually need to release 7 separate models in a year? We may not think it to be too wise, but we may be wrong. We hope that five to seven just means that there will be specifications involved on the various 2-3 main products.
