According The Wall Street Journal, Amazon are gearing up to launch an eBook subscription service.
They are currently in talks with book publishers to launch the digital media library for tablets and other digital books, including their own Amazon Kindle. Amazon will reportedly offer book publishers a substantial fee for their involvement in the program.
Dubbed as a Neflix service for readers, subscribers would pay annual fee to access the digital books.
The idea isn’t entirely new with a number of sites offering digital books to buy or rent, however they only offer titles that are in the public domain rather than Premium bestsellers which Amazon will offering with this service.
The service will of course go hand-in-hand with their hugely successful Amazon Kindle. The eBook reader has been a huge hit since it was released. Amazon are set to release a new Amazon Kindle soon so perhaps this service will be closely tied with its release.
Although this is great for eBook readers, for retailers who sell papers books they will not be happy to hear this news; if the service is any kind of success it will attract business from them and could well lower the value of books.
