According to some leaked Amazon documents the total number of Kindle Fire tablets pre-ordered since it was launched 5 days ago is currently around 250,000.
The Kindle Fire may not be on par with likes of the iPad in terms of specs but what it does have is a budget price tag, unique user-interface and easy access to thousands of eBooks, Movies and TV shows and if sales continue at this rate it could sell close to 2.5 million units by the time it is released on November 15. Considering how other tablet rivals have been doing these figures are pretty impressive.
If we compare the figures to sales of other tablets, the Apple iPad 2 sold 2.5 million units in its first month which is around 80,000 units a day. The Kindle Fire is currently selling around 50,000 units a day and when you consider the release date is still over a month away that’s a not such a bad figure.
When we look at the sales of other tablets it’s even more impressive from Amazon’s point, the Motorola XOOM for example is rumored to have only sold 100,000 units after a month and a half. The BlackBerry PlayBook only sold 500,000 units total in its first quarter.
There’s no doubt the budget price tag is a huge factor in the impressive sales figures, Amazon have been very aggressive with the price and have even stated they will lose $50 per tablet sold. They will hope to make much of that money back through subscriptions and digital sales though.
One thing’s for sure Apple definitely have some serious competition on their hands and other tablet manufacturers will have to step up their game.
