Formally known as the HTC Bliss, the Taiwanese-based company have officially announced the HTC Rhyme. The smartphone will first be released on the US carrier Verizon.
The Rhyme is a mid-range phones aimed primarily at the female market. It’s packing a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon processor, 3.7 inch WVGA display and 5 megapixel camera with single LED flash. Respectable specs in the current market but the main appeal of this phone is not what’s under the hood; it’s the vibrant exterior and original features that set this phone apart from the rest.
Other features include HSDPA, WiFi, GPS, plus accessories such as the sports armband, a matching plum-colored Bluetooth headset, wired stereo headset and desktop dock. However the much rumored light-up “charm” is probably the most original and appealing feature on this phone. The charm glows to notify owners of incoming calls and messages, and whilst it certainly appeals more to females there is nothing like it on the market at the moment.
It will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, alongside HTC Sense 3.5 and HTC Watch (streaming video support). HTC will also be offering a silver version of the phone, as not to alienate the phone from the rest of the market.
The Verizon release date for the Rhyme is September 29 and it is price at $199.99. No release date has been confirmed for Europe and Asia, though it is widely expected to go on sale outside the US next month.
