According to rumours Apple are finally set to unveil their iPad 2 and iOS 5 at an event tomorrow (March 2nd).
We recently reported that the iPad 2 and iOS 5 would be announced on the 13th February, as that was the rumour at the time without any official confirmation from Apple itself. However, in the recent days Apple have announced it will host its Media Event tomorrow on 2nd March at Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco 1PM ET time which is 6PM GMT for the UK.
Of course, as is well known Apple are a very secretive company when it comes to their events, and nobody knows for sure what will happen tomorrow. There has been no official confirmation from Apple that they will announce any new products. However, that doesn’t stop Apple fans from creating rumours and discussing what they’d like to see at these events. Apple hasn’t always kept as secret about new products as it would like to though, in 2010 an Apple employee left an iPhone 4, disguised as an iPhone 3G S in a bar. This was then found, and within a few days pictures of the phone were all over the Internet.
There are very strong rumours flying around the Internet at the moment that the next iPad from Apple will be announced tomorrow. This is for many reasons, one of the main ones being that Apple always update their other iOS (Apple’s software for their touch screen mobile devices) devices once a year, and so it would make sense to update the iPad once a year too. Another reason the rumours are so strong about an iPad update tomorrow is that Apple are under heavy competition with their tablet device. Since the iPad was announced in January 2010, hundreds of tablet devices have been created and rivalled Apple’s iPad since day one. The Apple iPad also has a lower screen resolution than the iPhone 4, which was released after the iPad. The iPad has 132 pixels per inch whilst the iPhone 4 has its retina display and 326 pixels per inch. I personally think the iPad 2, or whatever Apple decides to call their next tablet device will boast a retina display, much like the iPhone 4’s. However because of the increased screen size from the iPhone 4’s 3.5 inches to the iPad’s 9.7 inch it might not be possible for Apple to create a retina display at that size. I do think though that the iPad will have a screen resolution improvement.
A rumour that I think is almost guaranteed to be true about Apple’s next tablet device is that it will feature at least one camera. The insides of the original iPad casing showed a hole for a camera, suggesting apple decided against adding a camera to the device at the very last minute. With all other iOS devices recently released having a front facing camera (iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4) it surely is a given that this is coming to iPad too. Apple also want to expand their Facetime service so by adding it to the iPad, even more people can enjoy free video calls over WIFI. Cases have also emerged for the next iPad, showing a rear-facing camera also, the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4 also have rear facing cameras so this rumour could very possibly be true too. Another very recent rumour is that there will be a white iPad released also, 9To5Mac posted this picture http://www.9to5mac.com/54178/ipad-2-also-comes-in-white, which shows the apparent front of a white iPad 2. The legitimacy of this picture however, has not been confirmed so as always take these rumours with a pinch of salt. So will the iPad 2 replace the working man’s laptop forever? From what we’ve seen so far, I don’t think so just yet and think Laptops are still more practical. However Apple could surprise us so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Another rumour about tomorrow’s Apple event is that iOS 5 operating system will be announced. This is thought to be true, since every year since 2007 apple has released a new version of iOS (formally named iPhone OS). There are not that many details on what could appear in iOS 5 as said above, Apple are a very secretive company so nothing is official yet. However, as June 2011 gets even closer which is the expected release month of the iPhone 5, it can only be a matter of time before iOS 5 is announced marking that the iPhone 5 will arrive this year also.
Whatever happens tomorrow, we will be watching Apple as they set the stage for what is going to be a very exciting Apple event. Watch this space for a review of the Apple media event, very soon.
