Skype have just announced a video calling option for Android supported devices.
Leading VoIP provider Skype who is close to being owned by software tycoon Microsoft, has now unveiled Skype 2.1; the Skype application is just for use on Android phones. The application will be available on 17 new video calling enabled handsets. More so, a large number of users will be happy to see its app settings.
Earlier this summer Skype started video calling option on their Android phones, but at the beginning it was only supported on four smartphone devices; the Google Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Xperia Pro and Xperia Neo. But now Mark Douglas of Skype has announced that the technology will be supported on a whole new range of Android devices.
Skype 2.1: Updates and bug fixes
The updated version will have performance enhancements and bug fixes, which includes an effective fix for the faulty microphone which occurred on the Xperia mini model of Sony Ericsson.
For users who currently have the Android app, you will get the opportunity to download this updated version from Skype.com/m or Android Market using their phone’s browser or scanning the QR code to the right.
Skype 2.1: Perhaps a compromise with the video quality
According to Douglas’ blog, for Skype video calling, if you cannot see the video calling settings, it means your Android phone does not meet the minimum requirements needed to make Skype video calls. Please be aware that video call quality may not be as good as on a certified Android device and only the back camera of the device will work if your device is running on Android 2.2
After enabling the “video call” Settings in Skype settings, your ready to make a video call. Those who use phones, running through Android 2.3, can use both the front as well as rear camera for Video calling. Skype’s support on Android is sure to bring in some great revenue for Microsoft.
